Independent buyer-side vehicle sourcing
Custom school bus sourcing for defined routes and riders
Translate a district, contractor or campus transport requirement into a comparable factory RFQ. SchoolTransit Source is an independent sourcing partner, not a manufacturer, dealer, importer of record or certification body.

Why school bus quotations stop being comparable
Family maximum versus the quoted configuration
A brochure maximum may use a different chassis, wheelbase or seating package. Ask the factory response to identify the exact body, chassis and rating document that supports the offered vehicle.
Seat count versus operating requirement
Passenger capacity depends on seat spacing, restraint choices, wheelchair positions and local operating rules. Record the intended rider group and accessibility layout rather than comparing a headline seat number alone.
Vehicle price versus delivered procurement scope
Separate bus price, options, inspection, inland transport, freight, duty and destination services. Compare each proposal on one Incoterm and destination basis.
Series documents versus exact-model evidence
FMVSS or EPA materials must be checked against vehicle category, configuration and model year. SchoolTransit Source requests evidence but does not grant approval or registration.
A like-for-like custom school bus comparison ledger
| Comparison item | Required basis | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Body and seating | Exact passenger count, seat layout, accessibility positions, doors and climate package | Configuration sheet and seating drawing |
| Chassis ratings | Wheelbase, GVWR and axle ratings for the quoted chassis/body combination | Model specification and rating-label reference |
| Powertrain | Fuel or electric system, drivetrain and route assumptions | Powertrain data; for EVs, usable kWh, connector and range test basis |
| Delivery | One quantity, destination, Incoterm and requested window | Itemized quotation, document list and logistics exclusions |
Numbers are not prefilled because the applicable values depend on the exact vehicle. Use supplier evidence to populate the ledger after the requirement is fixed.
Evidence questions before buyer approval
The sourcing brief identifies what must be tied to the proposed school bus, while final acceptance remains with the buyer and qualified destination-side reviewers.
Which ratings apply?
Request GVWR, axle ratings and wheelbase for the exact chassis and body. A family maximum does not establish payload or passenger capacity for another layout.
What changes for a used bus?
Request VIN, model year, odometer, dated exterior/interior/underbody images, title status, service records and an agreed inspection scope. Series literature cannot prove one unit's condition.
What documents should be checked?
Ask for configuration-specific specification, safety and emissions materials where applicable. Their relevance depends on model year, destination and exact vehicle; no sourcing page can substitute for regulatory review.
Can price or lead time be confirmed here?
No. Both require a current factory or unit-specific quotation after the product, configuration, quantity and delivery scope are known.
Start with a route brief, seating plan or reference specification
Include quantity, destination and the ratings or documents that must be verified. We use those inputs to request comparable factory quotations.
